Rosin
Rosin is a mixture of various components; its composition varies depending on the pine species. It mainly composes of resin acids with a small amount of fatty acid and neutral substances. According to analysis, normal rosin has a resin acid content of 85.6 to 88.7%, fatty acid of 2.5 to 5.4%, and neutral substances of 5.2 to 7.6%. Through different processing methods, it can be made into non-volatile natural resin known as rosin. Depending on different ways of refining, it can be divided into ‘gum rosin’, ‘wood rosin’ (rosin leaching) and ‘tall oil rosin’. Rosin is pale-yellow to reddish brown or transparent; it is a thermoplastic vitreous material.
